The CD6006 is the newest model in Marantz's 6000 series, with even more specially chosen components and a brand new layout circuit when being compared to its predecessor (CD6005). This CD player is a match made in heaven for any music lover who wants nothing more than a brilliant music experience at a reasonable price.
The Build
The CD6006 has not drifted far from the design of the 6000 series CD players in the past, the chassis dimensions and the fascia layout will make you have deja vu. The face of the unit shows a central tray loading mechanism, just underneath is the bright display, the usual controls, a USB socket and also a 6.3mm headphone output with gain control. The feet at the base of the unit have been revamped, made more rigid to continue to get rid of any vibrations. You can buy this player in either a sleek black or an elegant silver gold combination, both have been designed for beauty and function.
The Specification
This is a 2 channel CD player, with 1 coaxial and 1 optical output as well as a headphone output for a variety of connections. It has a 192kHz-24-bit resolution thanks to the reference class CS4398 D/A (digital to audio) converter, which is then 'pushed' to the gold-plated sync outputs by Marantz's very own small amplifier, the HDAM-SA2. Talking about the amp, the headphone amplifier features the HDAM-SA2 circuit with three gain settings (Low / Mid / High) so it can support a wider range of headphones. For all those who are obsessed with everything Apple, you're in luck. This unit is specifically 'made for iPod and iPhone', letting you directly playback your iDevice through this CD Player's high quality D/A converters. To go the extra mile, Marantz has created its own discrete circuit boards to replace the standard ICs, and lastly there are high current Shottky Barrier Diodes and high current storage capacitors which do their part to ensure you get the best out of this player.
Everything else
Marantz's CD6006 CD player weighs a decent 6.5kg, and has the dimensions: 440 x 340 x 105 (mm). It has a power consumption of 32w and when on standby mode it is 0.3w. This unit comes with an auto power off feature, meaning if there is no audio input or you've gone off and left it on for about 30 minutes, it'll automatically switch to standby mode. If you're not going to be using the CD player, pull out (gently) the detachable power cord and put it away. Lastly, the CD6006 comes with a remote control so you don't need to keep going over to change the song or adjust the volume. If that wasn't enough, this remote also has the power to control the PM6006 Integrated Amplifier.
This has been awarded "What HiFi Awards Winner 2016 - Best CD Player under £500", and is unbeatable. If you liked the previous CD6005 (also in a black or silver/gold) then you'll love the CD6006 as What HiFi says that "It's a case of: meet the new boss - mildly upgraded and consequently appreciably better than the old boss'." And if all of this hasn't persuaded you, then you're just going to have to buy it and find out for yourself.
